Local Knowledge Pays Off At Magnificent Mottram

DESPITE the heavy rain of the days prior to the competition Mottram Hall was able to provide a fine course of over 7,000 yards for a full and high quality field for the final Manchester Alliance fixture for the first half of its busy winter programme.

The battle for the individual pro section was tight with just a point separating the top five players.

Knutsford pro Tim Maxwell, who worked for many years at Mottram, used his local knowledge to great effect as he posted 38 points to finish one clear of the chasing pack of David Green (Dukinfield), Anthony Millar (Ellesmere), Graham Cox (Davenport) and Phil Archer (Birchwood).

Pro-Am winners Gary Brown, Richard Blackwell and Tim Maxwell with sponsor representative Anton Johnson.

In the pro am section it was even closer with a cpo on 44 points going in favour of Gary Brown (Marple) and his Mottram Hall amateur partner Richard Blackwell, who blitzed the back nine, ahead of Tim Maxwell and Saleís Mobi Rawthore (another former Mottram star).

Next in were Pike Foldís Grant Hamerton and Steve Hamlett who won a cpo on 42 from Hazel Grove duo James Rowlands and Roy Campion with the final slot won by Phil Archer and his Warrington partner Anton Johnson with 41 points.

In the am am section the familiar names of Lee Warren (Northenden) and David Hemingway (Chorley) led in with 41 points from John Kilner and Neil Adamson (Ellesmere) 40 and Leigh stars Vinny Doyle and John Moorfield with a timely 38 points.
