Cheshire Lady Captain 2015

Marian looks to get more girls into golf

MARIAN Scowcroft (pictured) has served the Cheshire Ladies Golf Association for several years in various roles and is now looking forward to her latest position as the Cheshire Lady Captain in 2015.

Marian said: "My first golf club in Cheshire was Runcorn and I spent 15 years at the club during which I was Ladies Secretary for five years, played for the shield teams and made many good friends. "I later joined Delamere Forest Golf Club where again I have played on the Shield teams. I first joined the County Executive in 2007 and it was then that I started to help with the Junior Girls and since then I have been involved in many aspects of Junior Golf in Cheshire including organising all the Junior Competitions for the last five years.

"During 2015, the County are hosting the Northern Counties Match Week at Sandiway Golf Club and I look forward to seeing many lady members from Cheshire supporting the County Team during the week.

"However, my one hope for 2015 is that we can reverse the decline in Junior Girls at our clubs. The decline is replicated across the Country with less than 4,000 junior girls currently with membership at Englandís Clubs.

"There is so much competition from other sports that it is important that we all spend time encouraging our Junior Girls to develop their talent and stay in this fantastic sport.

"I do hope that the Ladies Committees at all Cheshire clubs can spend some time discussing how their club can help the girls already playing and how they can encourage other girls to join."
