Big Year Ahead For Sybra
SYBRA Eardley (pictured) and Wilmslow Golf Club are delighted that she will be serving as the Cheshire County Ladies Golf Association Captain in 2018.
Sybra said: "I am really looking forward to
my year as Captain and I have a great
"I played golf for the Manchester and District Golfing Society which was for junior golfers under the age of 25, both boys and girls
"I played in my first County Event at Royal Liverpool in 1980 in the County Championship and did not do very well as I had never seen a links course before!
"The year after I entered the County Championships at Sandiway and got to the semi finals and was asked to play in the Cheshire A team that year and after that I played on and off for the Cheshire B Team for many years.
" I joined Wilmslow Golf Club in 1980 to get some low-handicap female competition and had some great years being part of some successful teams winning Scratch Leagues and been part of four Bell Cup winning teams.
"I also play a lot of golf at Royal St Davids and when i was semi-retired from work I played for Royal St Davids in the Welsh Team Championship and we were lucky enough to win it back in 2009.
"For me Team golf is the best format and I have been lucky enough to be a part of some very good teams and forged some very good friendships from them.
"I was ask to be a selector for Cheshire in 2010 to 2013 and in 2015 was given the honour of being Lady Captain of Wilmslow Golf Club and to my great surprise was ask to be County Captain for 2018.
"I follow in a long line of County Captains
from Wilmslow and i am very pleased to be County Captain in the Wilmslow
Ladies 125 celebration year.
"We are trying to get more clubs engaging with us running many different kinds of competitions to suit all golfers of all ages and handicaps.
"Cheshire are also wanting to expand our
junior training for under 14ís at Portal, High Legh and Adlington
and we also have training for over 14 years with a handicap of 20 or
under through the Talent Pathway.
"England Golf is training many of our
members on all aspects of golf and club golf and Cheshire is lucky
enough to be chosen as one six Special Counties for all sorts of
training this year.
"Also Cheshire is delighted to be the hosts for the English Woman's Amateur Championships at Wilmslow July 17-19.
