Manchester and District Golf Alliance

At Crompton and Royton, sponsored by Steve Moorse and Phil Aitken of Majestic Coffee

Crompton thrives at Crompton

CROMPTON and Royton Golf provided a course in great condition and produced a good challenge for the second competition in the Alliance’s winter season.

At stake were the usual individual professional and pro am and am am prizes along with the Bert Thompson Trophy.

Bert was a long-serving and hard working committee member of the Alliance and the trophy has been played for in his memory for a number of years and is awarded to the pair from the same club who post the highest score on the day.

Haigh Hall pro Alan Crompton certainly thrived on the course with his name as he and his Haigh Hall partner John Egan posted 44 points to win the pro am section and the Bert Thompson Trophy on a cpo from Phil Archer (Poulton Park) and Martin Pasquill (Leigh), four more than home duo Martin Beaty and Captain David Harris.

Phil Archer showed his pro OoM intent as he cruised to top spot in the individual pro section with 38 points from Tim Maxwell (Knutsford), Mike Lane (Davyhulme Park), Alan Crompton and Alliance Captain Dave Green (Dukinfield), all 34.

It also needed a cpo in the am am section on 41 points to see Ashton-on-Mersey’s dynamic duo of Peter Hamlett and Steve McDermott into top spot from Ian Farthing and Steve King (Malkins Bank) with sponsor Steve ‘Majestic’ Moores and his Stamford partner Nick Rabbeth next in on 39.
