Dunham Forest Trophy final

Chorley prove to be too strong

THE prestigious Dunham Forest Trophy final which was postponed due to heavy rain two weeks previously was completed in style by Chorley Golf Club who won by 5.5-1.5 over Romiley.

Chorley had cruised into the final with a comfortable semi-final win over Stand and they kept up their momentum as wins for Phil Roberts by 6/5 and Graham Bolton by 4/3 put them in the driving seat against Romiley who had reached the final with a close semi-final win over Bolton Old Links.

Romiley’s young star Brook Snape gave his team hope as he pulled a point back with one-hole win over Simon McNab.

But there was no stopping Chorley as more victories from Jack Wiggins by 3/2, Darren Edwards by 3/2 and professional Andy Palmer by 6/4 sealed victory.

The other game between Jack Winward (Chorley) and Mark Worsley (Romiley) ended with honours even on the 18th.

Alliance Vice President Ian Brooks presented the trophies to the teams and congratulated them on their achievement for reaching the final of a top competition with an original entry of 92 clubs the biggest of its kind in the country.

Ian also thanked Dunham Forest for again providing an excellent course and fine hospitality over the two days it needed to decide the outcome of another great competition.
