Styal giant is unstoppable

MOTTRAM Hall provided its usual excellent warm welcome for another full Manchester Alliance field and all enjoyed some excellent greens and fine off-course hospitality.

Even without the presence of Alliance Captain Dave ‘Sunny Boy’ Green the weather, although chilly was again fine and occasionally sunny.

It provided inspiration for two former Mottram players in Styal giant (Six feet eight inches)Charles Herbert and Ross Birch (Northenden) who posted a huge 48-pointer the cruise to victory in the am am section ahead of Tony Stiles and John Canny (Sale) who won a cpo on 44 points from Alex Sung and Matthew Tse (Leigh).

Ellesmere’s Anthony Millar topped the individual pro section with 39 points, one more than Graham Cox (Lymm) and Ollie Smith (Ashton-on-Mersey with Chorley’s Andy Palmer taking the assistant pro prize with 37.

Grant Hamerton and Steve Horner (Pike Fold) were top of the pro am section with 44 points ahead of Davenport’s Jamie Goodhall and Cheshire Junior star Archie Palmer who won a cpo on 43 points from Tom Hollingsworth (Bramall Park and Chris Priestley (Macclesfield).

The prizes were given out by Jason Davies, the director of golf for Mottram Hall who thanked the players for their appreciation of the course and facilities at his club.
