Manchester and District Golf Alliance

At Romiley Golf Club for the Robert Wax Trophy

Craig sets Romiley on fire as Chorley duo win Robert Wax Trophy

THE Manchester and District Golf Alliance, the biggest in the country, teed off its new winter season in idyllic conditions at Romiley Golf Club to the delight of the new Alliance Captain Dave Green the Dukinfield Golf Club professional with the coveted Robert Wax Trophy at stake.

The superb weather and well conditioned course inspired a full field of players to produce a string of hot scores.

But undoubtedly the star of the day was Alliance stalwart Craig Corrigan who posted a scorching round of 47 points to romp to victory in the individual pro section and finish well clear of Alistair Waddell (Chorlton) 40 and Jamie Howarth (Davenport) and Mark Hancock (Stand), both 38.

Craig’s huge points haul could be a record score for the Alliance and their archivists are scouring their records to see if he has set a new mark.

Craig also topped the pro am section partnering Mark Riley (Leigh) to 49 points ahead of Andy Palmer and Gary Wood (Chorley) who won a cpo on 45 from Jamie Howarth and Mike Lamb (Bramhall).

Andy Palmer and Gary Wood were the winners of the Robert Wax Trophy as the players with the highest score on the day have to be from the same golf club and they were presented with the trophy by Alliance President John Dowd.

There were also convincing winners in the am am section with sponsor Paul Dalby’s guests Phil Vokes (Wilmslow) and Chris Cyprus (Didsbury) cruising to victory with 46 points, four more than Mark Window (Styal) and Gary Boott (Denton) who won a cpo from John Kilner and Terry O’Mara (Ellesmere).
