Seniors Team Championship

Lymm win tight contest

MANCHESTER Golf Club were again excellent hosts for the Manchester Alliance Seniors Team Championship which goes from strength to strength since its inception a few years ago.

The Manchester course was in impeccable condition considering the heavy rain the day before and again on the day of the competition for the finalists Denton and Lymm who were both proud to get through and represent their club at this prestigious final, hosted each year by Manchester.

On the course it was a terrific contest with plenty of top class golf from both teams with little between them during the day.

Lymm team are pictured with their trophies.

Graham Pollit and Les Bray gave Denton the early lead with a 3/1 win soon matched for Lymm by Will Paskins and Mervyn Roberts.

Chris Ireland and Brian Jones put Lymm ahead with a tense one up win over Dave Hughes and Steve O’Shaughnessy.

Denton hit back with a 2/1 win for Charles Smith and Alan Newbold so it was all down to the final game between Paul Welsby and Alan Painter of Denton against Phil Young and Keith Edwards from Lymm.

It went down to the wire of the final hole with a delighted Lymm winning by one up to claim the trophy for the first time.

Thanks were given by the team captains to the Alliance organisers and to Manchester Golf Club for being impressive hosts.
