Mottram Hall are superb hosts

THE Manchester Alliance concluded the first half of a busy winter season with a terrific competition at the excellent venue of Mottram Hall.

Despite the horrendous weather over the past few months the Alliance has done superbly to lose just one of its fixtures so far this season.

Mottram Hall have invested heavily on their course over the past year and its condition, with some great greens, showed the benefits of the on-going work with some fine scores from a full field.

It was close in the individual pro section with top spot shared on 39 points by Ollie Smith (Ashton-on-Mersey) and Matty Kay (Ashton-under-Lyne).

They were just one ahead of Alliance Order of Merit leader Phil Archer (Poulton Park) and Gary Brown (Glossop).

The pro am section saw back-to-back wins by Ashton-on-Mersey’s Ollie Pantoja and Josh Corrigan with 44 points.

It left them one clear of Graham Neville (Northenden) and Rob McCauley (Ringway), Ollie Smith and Paul King (Ashton-on-Mersey) and Disley duo Scott Jackson and Neil McGuiness.

There was also a repeat win for the talented Hindle family as dad Brian (Ellesmere) once more steered his son Steve (Marriott Worsley Park) to a top score of the day of 45 points.

Next in were home duo Mark Richardson and Bob Kwan with 43 from Charles Herbert (Styal) and Ross Birch (Stockport) 41.

There was also a new prize for Nearest the Pin sponsored by Paul Crisp (Ashton-on-Mersey) and it was won by Mike Jones (Davenport).

The Alliance officials and Mottram Hall received plenty of grateful thanks for their efforts on the day and during the season to date from all of the playersand Alliance Captain Steve Finan presented Jason Davies from Mottram Hall with the cheque for hosting the event and thanked all at the venue for their top class service and help in making this a special day for the Alliance.
