Handy Andy enjoys a double success

STAND Golf Club provided a minor miracle for the Alliance in having 18 holes open on a day when the vast majority of clubs in the region were either shut or had a limited number of holes open.

In spite of rain throughout the bulk of the competition the greens remained playable allowing some good scores to be posted.

The star of the day was Chorley Golf Club assistant professional Andy Palmer who enjoyed a great double win.

He took top spot in the individual pro section posting 41 points, in a round including seven birdies, to finish ahead of Order of Merit leader Phil Archer (Poulton Park) 40 and Grant Hamerton (Pike Fold) 38.

Andy found an excellent amateur partner in club colleague Martin Sailes who added two more points to win the pro am section after a cpo on 43 points with Phil Archer and Mark Pasquill (Leigh), two more than Knutsford duo Tim Maxwell and Joe Stanley.

It also needed a cpo in the am am section on 40 points with Stamford Golf Club’s dynamic duo of Chris Exton and Martin Dwyer getting the nod ahead of John Kilner and Tom Baker junior (Marriott Worsley Park) and home pair Simon O’Neill and Mike Anderson.

The nearest the pin prize which is being sponsored each week by Paul Crisp (Ashton-on-Mersey) was won on the 153-yard 13th by Richard Gilling of Ringway GC

The Alliance officials gave deserving thanks to all at Stand for their great efforts in providing the facilities and course to kick off the second half of their winter season.
