Prestbury Unvail The New Captains

Ian looking forward to a great year at Prestbury

PRESTBURY Golf Club’s new Captain Peter Atherton (pictured) said: "It looks like being an outstanding year ahead at Prestbury for in my 17 years at the club the course has never looked or played better thanks to head green keeper Mark Crossley and his team who are doing a fine job.

"The gentlemen’s section is nearly full and applications for membership are at an encouraging level.

"My own personal highlight was standing on the 16th tee at Prestbury in a major competition at one over par gross and finishing par, par birdie win the competition on a cpo and drop my handicap to five which had been a target for a few years – it is now seven.

"My favourite hole at Prestbury is the third – it is a challenging drive – either take on the bunker and try to hit a little draw or hit a three wood and then have a longer shot to the elevated green which must be hit perfectly to land and stay on the green.

"Carya in Turkey is my other favourite course and among my hobbies, other than golf, are skiing, going to the gym twice a week and looking for Liverpool FC’s results and I will be supporting the MS society as my charity.

"I think that many club golfers could learn a lot from watching lady pro golfers in action so I would love to play a mixed four ball with Ian Poulter (love the passion he has for the game) and two leading lady professionals like Suzann Pettersen and Michelle Wie."

"The section has good opportunity for matchplay at all levels and we also have good participation in our regular Tuesday morning competitions and it is good to report the excellent feedback we have from visitors and members alike with regard to the quality of the course and hospitality offered.

"My hobbies other than golf are walking, sewing and reading and I also support Leicester Tigers Rugby Union team.

"My favourite hole at Prestburyis the 11th as it is a challenge to reach the top of the hill and my favourite course other than Prestbury is St Davids, Harlech.

"My chosen charity is the Motor Neurone Disease Association and I am sure that I will receive great support from the wonderful members of the club."
