Action man Clive looking forward to a busy year at Ringway

RINGWAY Golf Club’s new Captain Clive Westbrook drove off in style at the traditional Captain’s Drive-in screaming a great shot down the centre of the first fairway - which is his favourite hole at the club ‘ because it is a nice easy starting hole’.

Despite some poor weather there was a great turnout to watch him drive into office

Clive has been a member at Ringway for eight years and he has also played hockey at Wilmslow Hockey Club for 49 consecutive seasons and still plays most weeks of the season.

Clive, who has a current handicap of 14 and a best of 11, usually plays at Ringway twice a week and he is a keen supporter of Manchester United.

Clive said: "My favourite course other than Ringway is Copperhead at Innisbrook in Florida and my personal highlight in golf was to win the singles match play knock out at Ringway in 2017.

"The charity I will be supporting is the Great Ormond Street Hospital and my chosen players to join me in a four-ball would be David Holt, a lifelong friend who dies of cancer last year and he got me into playing golf 30 years ago, Jack Nicklaus- the greatest-ever player and Lee Trevino who would keep us all amused.

"Ringway is a good test of golf for all standards with plenty of competitions for all players throughout the year and is a very friendly and sociable club."
