WGTB Mixed Pairs at Ashton-under-Lyne

Vicars Cross duo win in tight finish

ASHTON-under-Lyne Golf Club were their usual excellent hosts for the second WGTB Mixed American Foursomes competition of the season.

They provided an interesting, challenging and pristine course with superb off-course hospitality in their fine clubhouse.

There were plenty of good scores in the rewarding conditions and in the end it went to a cpo on 45 points with Vicars Cross duo Ian Mathews and Carol Harvey winning with a better back nine score from Linda Bolt (Stockport) and Alan Simmons (Didsbury) to win a fine prize of a round for four at Prestbury GC..

It also needed a count back on 42 points to see Rob and Joyce Curran (Prestwich GC) into third spot from Andrew Barlow and Pat Jackson (Worsley GC).

The final day prize went to WGTB stalwarts Barrie and Barbara Elliott (Prestwich) with the dynamic duo of Barrie and Barbara also notching a two after Barbara had won the ladies nearest the pin prize on the 16th.

The men’s nearest the pin on the 18th was won by the first tee shot of the day on the hole from Peter Blundell (Saddleworth) who was able to witness the other efforts after him.

The other Two’s were won by Alan Simmons and Linda Bolt , Alistair Culpan and Bev VanRoss and John and Jill Howarth.
