WGTB Days Out at Hart Common

Great Start To The New Season

HART Common Golf Club turned on the style both on and off the course to get the 2017 WGTB Mens Days Out programme off to an excellent start.

The greens were superb, slick, pacy and undulating and there was plenty of run on the course which most players have not experienced for several months after our damp and dismal winter.

The strong and chilling wind was a big factor and proved to be too much for many of the players as they struggled to match their handicaps on some testing holes.

Winners Ken Ashford and Steve Rayer From Woodside and Tytherington

But as always some beat the odds and come through with top scores and it was two of WGTBs most regular and consistently successful pairs who came to the top of the pile.

Ken Ashford and Steve Rayer set their stall out with a score of 41 points which was way out of sight for the bulk of the field until Steve McDermott and Terry Dallimore matched their score only to be beaten on a cpo.

The other top spots went to Heaton Moor duo late subs Chris Antonio and Billy McNeill, 39, Ged Wilkinson and Ken Sutton 38 and John Lewis who carried his partner Alan Roberts to 37 and now needs serious back massage to recover from his ordeal.

Mike Jones (Bramhall) had a good day as he scored the only two just the second time that this has happened in 20 years- on the 11th where he also won the nearest the pin prize.

Ray Houlton picked up the nearest the pin in two on the sixth and the grateful recipient of the Shortest Drive Trophy was Mike Roscoe with his 25-yard scuff on the first tee.

The final prize for the free raffle was won to great appaluse by Gilbert Pierce, now in his 87th year who will enjoy a bottle of Schnapps and free balls at Styal Range.
