WGTB Days Out at New Mills

WGTB stalwarts are untouchable

WGTB Days Out paid their first visit to the stunning New Mills Golf Club, enjoying fantastic weather and some of the finest views in the region on the border of Derbyshire and Cheshire and a tricky course.

There was great and friendly service in the clubhouse and from professional Sam Shaw with a warm welcome from members of New Mills

Mike Jones and Chris Davies have played in virtually all of the Days Out over the past 17 years and they have hit a hot streak of form as they dominated the day with a fantastic haul of 47 points, which included a blob on the 15th hole.

This followed on a second place at Withington in the opening fixture and left them three points clear of playing partners Tam Donnelly and Mark Hughes.

The last three prizes went to a cpo on 42 points with Dave Wright and Eddie Mellor coming out on top from Ged Wilkinson and Ken Sutton and Ken Wardle and his excellent partner Ernie Molloy.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Steve Netherwood and Ken Sutton and there was a rich haul of ten Two’s led by Flixton Captain Chris Mulhearn with a brace.

Eddie Mellor picked up the free raffle prize and another Days Out stalwart Bill Jones was not too delighted after picking his third Shortest Drive Trophy.

It was done in dramatic style as his opening drive hit the dry stone wall in front of the first tee, then his second shot also hit the wall and when his third shot repeated this Bill picked up his ball and moved on but his unflappable partner Steve Howarth kept his nerve to pick up two points.

Bill was rewarded for his Trophy hat-trick as he was presented with three balls by pro Sam Shaw.
