WGTB Days Out at Didsbury

Sponsored by Dave Wright

Late scoring flourish wins the day

DIDSBURY Golf Club provided perfect weather, a challenging course with plenty of run and excellent hospitality and organisation off the course for the second WGTB Men’s Days Out competition.

The early players found scoring difficult apart from Days Out regulars Geoff Hammond and Paul Mooney who stormed to 25 points from the first nine holes.

Unfortunately they could not keep up the pace adding only 13 points in the back nine.

The early pace-setters on 39 were Flixton’s Chris Mulhearn and Dave Lomax and Terry and Nigel Chaplin.

Then came the late rush of 40plus scores led by eventual winners Tam Donnelly and his substitute partner Steve Hanley with a terrific haul of 45 points.

Next in on 44, using local knowledge to good effect, were home duo Alan Simmons and Len Cunningham followed by Steve McDermott and Terry Dallimore 42, Tony Gregory and Charles Beadle 41 and Darren Booth and Mark Timperley 40.

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Tam Donnelly and Chris Mulhearn and the three Twos winning eight ball each came from Tam Donnelly, Andy Barlow and Paul Mooney.

There was popular winner in the ever-smiling Stan Laing who won his first trophy of the season – ‘The Shortest and Widest’ drive on the first tee much to the delight of his playing partners, one of who won the Free Raffle prizes.

The five pairs qualifying for the finals day in the Race to Haydock Park were Alan Simmons and Len Cunningham, Steve McDermott and Terry Dallimore, Darren Booth and Mark Timperley, Chris Mulhearn and Dave Lomax and Terry and Nigel Chaplin.
