WGTB Days Out at Disley

Disley provide a perfect day for golf

DISLEY Golf Club made up for last season’s rain-affected Days Out final by providing a magnificent course, with greens to dream about (or in the odd case a putting nightmare), great hospitality and off-course support and a balcony/terrace, which can have few equals in the North West with stunning views.

On course the Disley challenge was backed by one of the best day of weather in 2019 and provided a fitting golfing challenge enjoyed by all on a memorable day sponsored by Mike Lyden of MJL Global Logistics..

North Manchester’s putting genius Vinny Brennan and Dave Leonard were the early pace-setters with a well-constructed 42 points looking to see them first across the finishing line.

Tam Donnelly Sponsor Mike Lydon and Mark Hughes

But as always there was a big sting in the tail as they were overtaken by the old firm of Tam Donnelly (Northenden) and Mark Hughes (Blackley) who cruised to victory with a superb haul of 45 points with Tam also getting one of eight ‘Twos’ and nearest the pin in two on the tricky 16th.

In third spot were the powerful Heaton Moor combo of John Wheeler and John Howarth with 41 points with the returning Peter Davies (Tytherington) and Gary Johnstone (Alderley Edge) winning a cpo on 40 points to take the last prize.

Ed Mellor (Worsley) won the nearest the pin on the sixth hole – but missed his putt for a Two- and Geoff Hammond was a grateful recipient of the free raffle.
