WGTB Days Out at Mellor and Townscliffe

Sponsored by Andy Quiliogotti Stone and Tile

Welsh Wizards triumph at magnificent Mellor

A GOOD field of players enjoyed a great day at Mellor and Townscliffe Golf Club both on and off the course.

The course was superbly presented with magnificent views across Greater Manchester and Cheshire to make up for the greens dyslexia which affected large numbers of the players as they failed to cope with the amazing slopes and borrows on the excellent greens.

This was reflected in the low scores posted by some competitive pairs with 40 points ruling the roost before there came the usual sting in the tail.

Setting the early pace with 40 points were Richard Smith and Mel Ince (Bramhall) from Alan Lawrence and Dave Slater and homesters Ian Appleton and Dave Allcock.

They were joined and passed on 40 by the last competition winners Ged Wilkinson and Ken Sutton then Tam Donnelly and Mark Hughes with 41.

The old firm of Steve McDermott and Terry Dallimore (who featured in the back nine after Steve’s opening burst of 34 gross on the first nine) took over the lead with 42.

Then the father and son duo of Terry and Nigel Chaplin made their arduous trip from North Wales worthwhile as they had the best-of-the-day 43.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Grant Ward and Ian Matthews with Two’s limited to Grant Ward, Alan Lawrence, Peter Gibson and Jon Roberts.

There was a real treat for Bill Jones who won the Shortest Drive Trophy and thanks to Colin Hughes and Mellor and Townsliffe Bill also won a framed reminder of his feat and 24 balls.

Full praise to sponsor Andy Quiliotti and his two teams for their enthusiasm and good humour on the day with their ‘star’ player Phil Wardle winning the free raffle prize.
