WGTB Mixed at Styal

Super Styal sees the record books ripped up

THE revamped Styal Golf Course provided a terrific stage for the WGTB American Greensomes Mixed Pairs Stableford.

Their excellently presented and attractive lay-out invited big scores and they came in thick and fast with all players enjoying great weather.

The competition has been running for 20 years and the dynamic duo of Paul Dransfield (Dukinfield GC) and Kath Norgate (Stand GC) set a new highest score with a fantastic 50-point haul with Kath having a magic day with her putter to win a dream round for four at Prestbury GC.

Next in were the old firm of Charles and Maggie Beadle (Bramhall GC) with another superb score of 46 points, which would also have beaten any previous record.

Winners Kath Norgate and Paul Dransfield

They did set a new record for the event as they posted two ‘Two’s on the 14th hole as they holed their partner’s tee shots- the first time that this has ever been done.

The other top prizes went to Darren and Shaleen Booth (Manchester GC) with 45 points, Jeff and Lilian Howarth (Saddleworth) 42 and Derek Dooley and Norma Stephen (Ringway) after a cpo on 41 points.

Nearest the pin prizes were taken by Gill Mannia (Didsbury) and Derek Dooley with the other Two’s on the day going to Richard Johnson and Gill Mannia and Saddleworth stalwarts Alan and Sonia Dunn.

A great day for all and congratulations to Styal Golf Club for their excellent work and friendly service off the course.
